After you download
Japanese font you may need an unzip
tool like
WinZip to extract the font. After you have unzipped the font, move it to
your "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts" folder. If you are running Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/NT
you may need to manually install the font by selecting "Install new fonts"
from the "File" menu.
This font is compatible
with Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and with Japanese versions of Windows
95/98/98SE/ME/NT. Other operating systems may not be able to display the
font.
IME (Input Method
Editor)
Some of our pages contain Japanese characters. To display these characters
properly you may need to adjust some settings in your operating system.
Instructions on adjusting these settings can be found on our
Installing Japanese Support.
If you are running
Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/NT you will need to download Microsoft IME to display
Japanese in your browser.

Installing Japanese support
Certain sections of The
Foreigner - Japan, such as Japanese 101, require Japanese
support to be displayed correctly. This page will walk you through the steps
to prepare your computer for Japanese support. Please select your operating
system below and follow every step described.
For Windows XP:
Support for East Asian languages
is embedded in Windows XP.
All you need to do is activate it.
1. Open
"Control Panel" > "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options".

2. Click
"Add other languages".

Check "Install files for East Asian languages" and click "Apply".
You may be prompted to insert the Windows
XP installation CD-ROM.

3. To be able to switch between Japanese and English input, click "Details",
and select "Japanese - Microsoft IME
Standard" as the Default input language.

You may want to delete the English input, since it is also available while using IME
4. Click
"OK".
After installation it might be necessary to restart your computer.
